Edmonds Band Rotunda. Repaint completed following earthquake-damage restoration, awarding Finesse with a Master Painters Silver Award.
The brief.
The Edmonds Band Rotunda sits on the Avon River in central Christchurch, one of the city's most photographed heritage structures. The restoration was delivered for Dominion Constructors Limited, and it earned Finesse a Master Painters Silver Award.
The work.
The exterior repaint covered the columns, balustrade, stair structure, and surrounding plinth using a specialist masonry system. The eight lamp stands were finished to a three-coat system across a separate specification. Each element required its own preparation and approach, and the combination of masonry, cast iron, and decorative metalwork across a single structure demands a painter who understands how different substrates and coating systems behave alongside each other. On the red cedar ceiling, Finesse applied a final coat of natural wood oil following installation.
The finish.
The Edmonds Band Rotunda restoration is one of the projects that defined Finesse's reputation in the Christchurch heritage space. The Master Painters Silver Award reflects the quality of the outcome, but the work behind it reflects something more fundamental.
